EVEREST EXPEDITION FROM TIBET - ENTRY / EXIT ZHANGMU
Gurkha Encounters will arrange all the necessary paperwork to allow your expedition into Tibet and the north side of Everest from Nepal. Zhangmu is a customs town and port of entry located in Nyalam County on the Nepal-China border, just uphill and across the Bhote Koshi River from the Nepalese town of Kodari. At 2300 meters above sea level, Zhangmu has mild and humid subtropical climate, which is a rarity for Tibet.
Trucks traveling on the China-Nepal Highway offload goods at Zhangmu and transfer them to trucks from the opposite country. The single narrow zigzag street of Zhangmu makes this an especially difficult operation.
In Lhasa you will have time to visit the Potala, the famous palace of the Dalai Lama, and other monasteries within easy reach of this modernized bustling city. However, there are still enchanting tours amongst the crowded Tibetan market, Barkor Bazaar. Reaching the north base camp is a totally different experience to that in Nepal. You will drive past the beautiful lake on the way to Gyantse with its unique Kumbum Stupa. Stopping over at Shigatse you will have the opportunity to tourh the massive Tashilungpo monastery.
We will arrange the overland driving, trekking and camping in Tibet which are at altitudes of between 4390m (14400ft) and 5150m (16,900ft) so due care must be take relating to altitude problems. Gurkha Encounters will support the trek with the aid of a Tibetan or Nepali Sherpa crew.
